Abstract
Review of the uses of gold in dentistry from the first millennium B. C. onwards. The use of gold wire for binding teeth by the Greeks and Romans is described. Apart from a brief reference to the origins of gold filling during the Renaissance period, the rest of the review deals with advances since the nineteenth century, especially in the field of dimensionally accurate lost wax casting. -- AATA
