Abstract
A marble bust, dating probably from the late Renaissance and imitating a 2nd century Roman style, had red paint sprayed onto it. A poultice of the clay mineral attapulgite mixed with an appropriate solvent was used to remove the paint. A discussion of the history and chemical composition of attapulgite and its application is provided. The poultice technique is described in detail. -- AATA
