Abstract
Described is a darkroom accident involving a bottle of glacial acetic acid which blew its cap and drenched the author, including his eyes. Only immediate and lengthy flushing of his eyes with water saved his sight from permanent damage. Discussed are use of eye protection, gloves and other safety precautions when working with chemicals. Particular warnings are mentioned for acids, alkalies, metallic compounds such as those containing selenium, mercury, chromium, gold and platinum, and cyanide and ferrocyanide compounds. -- AATA
