Abstract
Exhibiting very valuable early photographs may not be compatible with preserving them. Even the best protection in exhibitions fosters deterioration. Exhibitions are increasing in popularity. Unfortunately, photographic conservation is a relatively new field, and guidelines to prevent such exhibition-related deterioration are difficult to give. Thus, it is necessary to reduce the time and frequency of exhibition of our most valued photographs. Substitutes like publication programs are available.
