Abstract
Vaucanson was an 18th century French manufacturer of silk who was known for his use of advanced equipment. Published here is the February 28, 1783, inventory of the machinesand tools in his possession at the time of his death. The 60 entries describe the machines, their condition, their drawbacks or strengths, and names the factories for which they were made. What is published here was originally an appendix to the report prepared in connection with the creation of a public warehouse of manufacturing equipment in the fall of 1783. In part 2, de Place publishes the inventory of the machines and models for machines brought to the Hôtel de Mortagne between October 17, 1781 and June 11, 1791. The 230 entries include the names of the machines' inventors. -- AATA
