Abstract
Oriented towards collectors and librarians new to the field of preservation, this publication aims to provide background information necessary to select the most appropriate storage systems for flat paper. Paper and board storage materials are described with information about acidity levels. Discusses preparation for storage including handling, documentation, and treatment techniques. Case studies are described for a number of formats. Documents may be interleaved with buffered paper and stored in paper folders or individual polyester enclosures. These may be stored flat or in archival document cases or cartons. Oversized documents must be properly supported and may be rolled if flat storage is not available. Works of art should be matted, properly supported, and stored flat. Other materials discussed include pamphlets, magazines, newspapers, and ephemera.
