Abstract
In the Cistercian monastery of Neuzelle, south of Frankfurt/Oder, a considerable amount of Baroque church textiles has remained. In the wardrobes built for this purpose at the beginning of the 16th century, a number of shrines, chasubles, cushions, furniture covers and sets of clothes for the Pilgrim Madonna can be found. This study has focused upon the latter group of relics, i.e. vestments. The fabric of these originated in France and are outstanding examples of the golden age of silk weaving.
