Abstract
Description of a rare survival of heather-thatched building, of two stories with byre, kitchen/living room, two-cell upper chamber, brick chimney stack, and attached stable. The roof truss is described and vegetation/moss remains analyzed; artifacts including a pewter spoon and a clog had been poked into the roofing. A brief inventory of Northumberland, Durham, and North Yorkshire County heather-thatched buildings is provided and the thatching technique discussed. This example was rethatched for the Landmark Trust.
