Abstract
A symposium held by the Center for Historic Preservation at the Middle Tennessee State University, United States, in the fall of 1988 focused on preservation concepts for retaining the historic distinctiveness of Tennessee and its neighboring states; an interstate compact was considered as a means for dealing with regional planning conflicts. Each point of what the preservation plan needs to include is assessed.
