Abstract
The beginning of this article is devoted to explaining the importance, significance, and objectives of conservation and restoration, with special emphasis laid on archaeological objects of bronze. A review of the development of techniques since the end of the last century and the important role played by Friedrich Rathgen are followed by a survey of the present state of conservation and restoration; recovery, storage, and documentation methods are described, along with some examination techniques using archaeological bronzes at various stages of preservation. A detailed list of methods was intentionally not included.
