Abstract
A code of ethics for museum registrars is presented which amplifies the document Museum Ethics, prepared by the American Association of Museums Committee on Ethics. The present document also addresses the particular concerns of registrars. An introduction to the code is presented by Cordelia Rose of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, Smithsonian Institution. The sections of the code are: management, maintenance, and preservation of the records; management, maintenance and conservation of the objects; acquisition and disposal; availability of collections and records; truth in presentation; human remains and sacred objects; general deportment; conflict of interest; responsibility to the collections and other museum property; personal collecting and dealing; outside employment and consulting; gifts, favors, discounts and dispensations; teaching, lecturing, writing and other creative activities; field studies and collecting; professionalism, and interpersonal relationships and intermuseum cooperation.
