Abstract
In ancient times, silk was first dyed blue with Indigo-vat and then dyed again with some other dye like wobaku or Kariyosu; the result yielded a green color. Kariyosu dye contained flavones and tannin. This tannin gave a brown shade in yellow dyeing. Ancient people mor-danted the clothes to eliminate this disadvantage of Kariyosu dyeing. After dyeing, silk cloths were mordanted in an aqueous solution of camellia ashes and dried in air. -- AATA
