Abstract
The scanning electron microscope has attracted increasing attention as a tool for the use in archaeological and museum science. This note describes a method of sample treatment used to remove excessive glue from small specimens of chalk/glue ground taken from oak panel paintings. It is based on enzymic hydrolysis of the glue to render it easily removable by water. Materials, equipment and techniques are discussed. -- AATA
