This article describes the interaction between pigments, solvents and binders in terms of the acid/base concept. The acid/base properties of these individual components relate to their electron donor-acceptor properties and influence the color, strength, gloss and flocculation behavior of various mixtures. The author also explains how the acid/base concept can explain certain anomalies appearing when using the solubility parameter concept. -- AATA
