Abstract
Cross sections though the painting were fixed in Ca -- H<sub>2</sub>CO for 24-48 hours, the specimen dehydrated in Me<sub>2</sub>CO -- H<sub>2</sub>O and finally pure Me<sub>2</sub>CO, infiltered with Me<sub>2</sub>CO, -- Vestopal W and finally with pure Vestopal W. Several sections were prepared, mounted on a slide, dried, stained with various histochemical stains, and examined with a transmitted-light microscope. Animal glue, egg yolk, various lipids, proteins, and other substances could be identified. -- AATA
