Abstract
During restoration it was learned that some fifteenth-century Italian paintings in the National Gallery in London had been altered in the 19th century. Single Paintings were made to appear complete in themselves by the covering of any design that continued over them from once adjacent panels, domed tops were squared to form rectangular pictures, and in one case proportions of the figures were enlarged to conform to Victorian tastes. -- AATA
