Abstract
The Kuna Indians live on the northern coast of Panama and on the San Blas islands. The Kuna practice a traditional textile skill called mola, the Kuna word for cloth. Molas are made using a unique appliqué technique where patterns are formed by the shape and color of the ground material. Molas are traditionally used in women's blouses. The patterns are abstract or stylized and frequently illustrate stories from Kuna mythology.
