Considers the Monuments Protection Programme (MPP) initiated by English Heritage for industrial monuments, with particular reference to recent endeavors to achieve stronger protection of sites relating to the nonferrous metals industry, especially upland lead mines and smelters. Reference is also made to the MPP word lists, databases, and class descriptions relevant to the iron, lead, copper, brass, and tin industries.
