Wall painting or fresco-covered facades are frequent in Slovenia and can be found on both secular and religious buildings, in urban or rural areas. As a rule, facades are renewed, while their paintings are conserved or restored. Because of their exceptional susceptibility to environmental influences, they are permanently threatened. The article describes some of the techniques used by restorers in Slovenia to preserve facade frescoes. The article also describes the damage and causes of decay frequently found on facades.
