A method was found to measure the coefficient of water vapor permeability of materials used as surface fixatives in the restoration of mural paintings. These products are applied to fragments placed in an adequate container, and the amount of water evaporated is measured, first on the non-treated piece and then the treated one. The relationship of the measurements will give the value of the coefficient sought. Comments are made on the results of tests of the main products used in France in this field.
