Abstract
Report on the treatment of a cream-colored lace shawl dated 1830-1920. It was generally yellowed and soiled with some small holes, tears, and snags as well as many small orange-colored stains. As the washing would not eliminate the orange stains which did not appear to be iron, it was decided to apply a bleaching treatment with stabilized hydrogen peroxide. The process is described in detail and the result was very satisfactory; the overall discoloration had disappeared, and many of the stains were gone.
