Abstract
Excavations since 1974, examination of the church fabric, rare contemporary records, and drawings and descriptions from recent centuries allow a clearer picture of the development of the church until the arrival of the Vikings in 873-874. Identifies five phases from the early 8th century onwards. Diagrams also show changes from the 14th century onwards.
