A group of 30 modern Japanese papers are tabulated according to methods of manufacture. These papers have been examined using energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry and grouped according to categories derived from elemental analysis, ash content and aspects of the manufacturing processes that suggest the characterization of the papers. The papers chosen for examination are often found in works of art or are used in paper conservation laboratories.
