Abstract
The author describes the initial stages of the exploration of the Great Platform. He defines the criteria used in selecting the necessary conservation measures, and discusses the advisability of removal including its impact upon the local community. The murals were kept in situ, and the conservation operations included cleaning, use of biocides, and consolidation. Fragile latticework required extra attention; some reintegration was necessary. The restoration of paintings and clay reliefs, the building of shelters and walkways is also reported.
