Abstract
This paper studies the possibilities of preserving archaeological sites by establishing suitable survival conditions based on natural features of the landscape, an effort that can prove successful when implemented in conjunction with legal and cultural interventions. Farming, forestry and vegetation, quarrying, water erosion, land erosion, tourism and urbanism, and wetland drainage are the pressures on archaeological environments the author examines in turn, and solutions proposed or adopted involving environmental control are indicated and evaluated.
