Abstract
Ionizing radiation is used as an efficient agent for preservation of wooden objects attacked by wood-destroying insects or fungi. Many objects are not transportable, and irradiation in situ must be arranged. A transportable mobile irradiation robot is described. The irradiator with ~ 6 kCi 137Cs moves automatically according to a precalculated program on a gridwork situated in front of the object. Optimum dose homogeneity and achievement of the required dose for the whole object are claimed. The problem of radiation safety during the irradiation is discussed. Preliminary results on the effect of radiation on <i>Merulius lacrimans</i> fungi are presented. -- AATA
