Abstract
The main weathering processes in stone monuments are caused by the combined action of rainwater and atmospheric pollutants deposited on the surface of the monument. The paper emphasizes the influence of two factors which are usually neglected: microclimate factors and the surface geometry, which provide a general model of the formation of the different crusts and visual features of weathered limestone. Decay processes of murals and frescoes (both inside and outside) are also examined. Bibliography with 52 entries, photographs, diagrams.
