Abstract
Samples of slag from twelve American and European blast furnaces operating before 1850 were analyzed and studied visually; their properties of fusibility, optimum composition, and desulphurizing capacity compared. All fell short of modern slags in some of these respects, but not all fumaces had to meet these criteria, if their processes differed from present day practice. -- AATA
