Abstract
In 1987, after more than 50 years of neglect, the E. Caballero Bellido Diatomological Collection was rediscovered in the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales. The collection is relevant in terms of the scientific context in which it was started (1891), as well as its composition, and conservation. Its state of conservation is addressed in the present study as well as today's value for scientists. The Caballero diatom collection is undoubtedly the most unique set of ornamental preparations in Spain.
