Abstract
Wartburg castle was erected in the 12th century and extensively restored in the 19th century, after construction changes up to the 17th century. After World War II the Wartburg Foundation and the Institute for Monument Conservation, Erfurt Office, initiated extensive research and undertook measures for restoration. These applied, in particular, to rooms on the ground floor, the Knights' hall, the dining hall, the Elizabeth ladies' bower, the chapel, the Elizabeth gallery, the singers' hall, the landgrave's chamber, the festival hall, and the arcade corridor. Special tasks for restoration developed from the complex peculiarities specific to the materials and the technologies involved. The restoration operations were carried out with materials tested in practice and technologies modified for the specific purposes involved and were documented in great detail. -- AATA
