Abstract
This document describes a successful conservation treatment. The Gondar hanging from Ethiopia, an artifact owned by the Royal Ontario Museum of Canada, is the largest known card, or tablet-woven textile in the world. The Canadian Conservation Institute was asked to treat the hanging. The Institute initiated a wide-spread cooperation between conservators, curators, art historians and scientists in an effort to devise the best treatment method. Among other things. The hanging was wet-cleaned on a unique vacuum washing table constructed for this purpose and its progress was monitored by the team of collaborating experts.
