Abstract
The various components of stained glass, even the most simple ones, differing in chemical and physical properties, will react differently to the influences of the environment. This article is concerned with the mechanisms involved in the natural ageing process of stained glass, and procedures to conserve or restore damaged pieces, and protection from atmospheric attack. The subjects of: patina of glass, removal of harmful substances and outer protection are discussed.
