Abstract
Transmission of neutrons and of low-energy Ü3-rays was employed for determining the composition of silver alloys, containing Ag, Cu, and Pb a predominant elements. Transmission meaurements of 0. 5 mug 252Cf neutrons allowed the determination of the Ag content, indepen-dentlv of the Pb content, and transmission meaurements of 241Am 60-keV Ü3-rays and 57Co 122-keV Ü3-rays allowed the simultaneous determination of Ag and Pb. The transmission methods have the advantage of being nondestructive, simple and allowing systematic meaure-ments on a large number of alloys. Meaurements were carried out on standard samples and on Ag coins in 100 s measuring time and compared to results obtained by the specific gravity method. The absolute error in the Ag content determination ranges 1-2%. -- AATA
