The standard software developed under the scope of a C.I.C.Y.T. Project for the Management of palaeontological collections in Spain is described. The consideration of fossils as Historical Heritage under Spanish law, and the use of more most advanced tools for collection management have led in recent years to the development of various software applications. The strong belief in the usefulness of such software becoming a national standard motivated the development of a two-day workshop in Barcelona (late 1991) where Spanish collections managers decided - on the basis of previous research work developed by our team - on the contents and structure of the Spanish standard software presented here.
