The author discusses an article by Helene E. von Eschenbach about the care and preservation of old textiles and calls her presentation misleading, erroneous and unqualified. He describes the effect of electra-magnetic waves, in particular UV light, dust of various compositions, and organic compounds in sweat. He deals with aniline dyes, fading and the effect of cleaning with water, soap, organic solvents and detergents. He points out various faulty conceptions. Preservation of wood requires eulanization (Eulan is a colorless dye which binds to wool fibers and makes them indigestible to moths). Ventilation and respiration is criticized as well as mildew and fungi.
