Abstract
A 1910 photo shows the flag of the Honorable Butchers' Guild of Basle, new in 1677, to be in tatters. Although partially repaired then, by 1964 it was about to fall apart completely. It can no longer be netted together. The large size of the flag, 2.6m x 3m, makes the work more difficult, including spraying on the UV absorber. Various synthetic chemicals and plastics are used to hold the fragments together, including Plexisol B 782 of Roehm and Hass GmbH, Germany. Eventually the flag can be renailed to its pole, just as it was in the 17th century.
