This entry consists of information and drawings of instruments and components known from both pictorial and archaeological records in Britain and Western Europe. The aim is to help to familiarize archaeologists with stringed instruments as a class of artefact, in the hope that this might lead in future to the identification of further, previously unrecognized examples.
