The cleaning of parchment entails brushing off the dust and dirt or removing it with a rotating eraser. Deacidification was not necessary on account of the way the parchment was made. The following mixture was used to soften the parchment: 10% carbamide and 2% sperm oil dissolved in 50% alcohol. The parchment was left in the mixture overnight, surplus fluid was evaporated, and the parchment was remounted in the book and dried slowly. -- AATA
