In Rabat, as in other Moroccan cities, the problematic relationship between a Muslim city, a colonial city created under the French Protectorate, and the patrimony has created a mixed architecture. This architecture, fed by two different systems of reference, can be observed in the layouts, sites, major axes, and urban and architectural arrangements of the city. Can we still dissociate from examples and after more than 50 years of cohabitation and interpenetration, two urban entities which are evidently different and autonomous, and which would be, on one hand, the secular heritage of the cultural property of a national patrimony and, on the other hand, the colonial heritage of a property which became stateless after independence?
