Abstract
The synthesis of calcium oxalates (whewellite and weddellite) from aqueous solutions was carried out. The pH value and the reagent ratios were consistent with those presumably present during film formation on marble surfaces. The pure compounds precipitate only under 20-25°C (weddellite) and above 80-90°C (whewellite). Weddellite undergoes progressive transformation into whewellite in a short time, but not in anhydrous conditions below 5°C.
