A metal nonwoven product is investigated for its potential as a prosthetic material for bone repair or reconstruction. A United States patent describes a porous, metallic fiber mesh prepared by intertwining the fibers, preferably titanium, to produce a sheet. The fibers are sintered and bonded at crossover points. The product would usually be provided in sheet form for cutting or folding to the appropriate size. For some applications, however, such as mandibular reconstruction or acetubular prostheses, the mesh material can be provided as a coherent mass and formed to the desired shape.
