Abstract
Ion-selective electrodes respond directly to ionic activity, but can also be used in a number of different ways to determine total concentration. They respond over a wide range, and, compared with other analytical techniques, are subject to remarkably few interferences. The impact of ion-selective electrodes on chemistry is only beginning to be felt, as research in electrode technology challenges the imagination and creative talents of the practicing analytical chemists.
