Abstract
The applicability of FT-IR microsampling techniques to the nondestructive analysis of ballpoint pen inks on questioned documents is discussed. Preliminary spectral results using conventional transmission FT-IR, micro-transmission/reflectance FT-IR, and diffuse reflectance infrared fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy are presented. DRIFT spectroscopy may offer a viable, nondestructive method for the analysis of ballpoint pen inks on questioned documents.
