The author surveys briefly the recent development of radiocarbon dating and its correlation with dendrochronology, especially in relation to ancient Egypt. After outlining the suggested chronologies for the Archaic period, he compares the results from seven radiocarbon dating laboratories and discusses the possible causes of discrepancy. He suggests that the controversy may be solved by future work on samples from the first dynasty tombs at Saggara. -- AATA
