Information on the microstructure of a sample of cast iron nails together with a short history of the malleable iron making process in the 18th century. The nails concerned are from three late 18th/early 19th century sites in U.S.A., and were likely to have been imported from England in limited numbers for highly specialized functions (for nailing lath or for decorative purposes). -- AATA
