This film describes several conservation projects, where scientific innovation and cooperation among art historians, conservators, archaeologists, and scientists have improved the conditions of works of art. Projects include the restoration work still being done in Florence to repair works of art damaged in the 1966 flood; preservation of stained glass windows in Cologne the reinforcement of the Statue of Liberty by replacing corroded iron bars with noncorrosive alloy; a new technique for cleaning paintings at the Winterthur Museum in Delaware; the earthquake-proof pedestals designed for sculpture at the Getty Museum in Malibu; and the restoration of the Parthenon in Athens with noncorrosive titanium clamps.
