Abstract
The use of small personal gamma-ray and x-ray sensitive personal radiation dosimeters of the Geiger-Müller (GM) tube type to measure the environmental radiation dose rate (R<sub>e</sub>) as it applies to thermoluminescence (TL) dating is described. Focuses on quartz inclusion and fine grain TL-dating and the need to make convenient spot measurements of R<sub>e</sub> when it would not be easily possible to return to the field site again.
