Abstract
Radiological examination of a miniature wooden obelisk, the fairly rare back pillar of a Ptah-Sokar-Osiris, revealed the unsuspected presence of a cavity containing a skeleton wrapped in cloth and identified as a human fetus. From medical papyri, the Egyptian attitude toward premature births is unclear, but a certain amount of respect seems to have been attached to this phenomenon, several fetuses having been placed in funeral statuettes, including two examples in the tomb of Tut'Ankhamun.
