Abstract
A comprehensive and critical survey of the methods used to estimate the size of a coinage and the number of original dies used to produce it. Most methods are tested using computer-simulated data. Estimators based on the coverage, the fraction of the total coinage produced by the dies in the sample, are the most accurate, in particular the method proposed by Good. This method is also reliable as an estimator of the total number of dies. -- AATA
