Abstract
A new ice-core dating of the eruption offers the title date with a standard deviation of seven years and error limit of ± 20 years. The Dye 3 deep ice core (South Greenland) has annual ice layers. Its acidity was studied for 1300-1900 BC and shows a major peak at 1645 BC. Acidity was measured by conductivity and chemical analysis (ion chromatography) around this acidity peak shows it to have a high content of sulfuric acid and is therefore volcanic. The available radiocarbon dates of carbon-based materials from Santorini are also listed and discussed and give a corrected weighted mean of 1630-1530 BC for one std. dev. and 1675-1525 BC for two s.d. -- AATA
